Gulab Jamun Recipe Soft & Juicy

Gulab Jamun is one of the most popular Indian sweets, loved for its soft texture and rich sugar syrup flavor.

Ingredients

For Gulab Jamun:

1 cup khoya (mawa)
2–3 tablespoons all-purpose flour (maida)
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Oil or ghee (for frying)

For Sugar Syrup:

1.5 cups sugar
1.5 cups water
3–4 cardamom pods (crushed)
1 teaspoon rose water (optional)
A few saffron strands (optional)


Instructions


Prepare the Sugar Syrup


In a pan, add sugar and water and bring it to a boil
Add crushed cardamom
Let it simmer for 5–7 minutes (keep it slightly sticky, not thick)
Add rose water and saffron, then turn off the heat


Make the Dough
Mash the khoya until smooth with no lumps
Add flour and baking soda, mix well
Add milk gradually and make a soft dough
The dough should be smooth, not too hard or sticky


Shape the Balls
Make small, smooth balls from the dough
Ensure there are no cracks


Fry the Jamuns
Heat oil or ghee on low-medium heat
Add the balls and fry slowly until golden brown
Stir gently to cook evenly from all sides


Soak in Syrup
Add the hot fried balls into warm sugar syrup
Let them soak for 1–2 hours to absorb the syrup


Serving Suggestions


Serve warm or chilled
Garnish with chopped pistachios or almonds
